Fried Cabbage

Fried cabbage is such a filling side, it can be your entree! Use whatever protein you like. From turkey neck, sausage, or shrimp, anything is possible with the versatility of a head of cabbage.

Fried cabbage is such a filling side, it can be your entree! Use whatever protein you like. From turkey neck, sausage, or shrimp, anything is possible with the versatility of a head of cabbage.

Ingredients
  

  • 1 head of cabbage sliced
  • 1 yellow bell pepper sliced
  • 1 orange bell pepper sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper sliced
  • 1 yellow onion sliced
  • 3 cloves of garlic minced
  • 2 tbsp green seasoning
  • 1 lb smoked beef sausage
  • 1 tsp Tony's Cajun Seasoning
  • 1 tbsp All Purpose Seasoning something low sodium
  • ¼ tsp Sazon
  • 3 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions
 

  • To a heavy pot, such as a dutch oven, add in the oil and once thats heated to medium high, add in sausage and cook until seared on both sides. Remove sausage from pot.

  • To that same pot, add in all bell peppers and onion. Sauté for 5 minutes, or until slightly softened. Add in green seasoning and cook for 2 minutes. Add in garlic cloves and sauté until fragrant, or about 1 minute.

  • Lower heat to medium and add in all cabbage. Stir to combine all vegetables and add in water. Cover for 10 minutes, removing lit halfway through to stir.

  • Remove lid and add in seasonings. Cook until desired tenderness.
    I like my cabbage still with a slight crunch to it, so I cook for an additional 3 minutes. If you like a softer cabbage, cook for another 5-7 minutes.

  • Serve immediately and enjoy. This dish can last for up to 3 days when properly stored and refrigerated.
