French Onion Pasta

One pot pasta dish filled with caramelized onions and oozing with gruyere cheese

  • 1 Skillet
  • 1 Cheese grater


  • 2 lbs yellow onions thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 3 tbsp salt and pepper
  • ½ lb spaghetti
  • 2 cups beef stock
  • ½ cup gruyere cheese
  • parsley chopped, to garnish


  • To a skillet on medium-high heat, add olive oil to the skillet. Once hot, add in onions and salt. Stir and cover. Uncover every 5 minutes and stir. Lower heat to medium after first 10 minutes. Halfway through, add in Worcestershire sauce and cook for 40 minutes total or until completely caramelized.
  • To the same skillet, add in spaghetti, beef stock, butter. Cover and cook for 8 minutes.
  • Uncover, check doneness of pasta and stir ! (Similar to how you would making risotto). Add in cheese and stir until combined.
  • Top with more Gruyere cheese and parsley. Serve immediately
